Hey, my name is Liam, and I first published 'Newcastle United 2-0 Sunderland' on 20th April, 2008, within the English Premier League section.

It took Newcastle 45 minutes to beat Sunderland as Michael Owen hit a double to ensure the three points stayed at St James’ Park and made sure that Newcastle would be in the Premier League next season.

It took The Magpies only six minutes to break the deadlock. Geremi slotted the ball through to Owen who beat Sunderland defender Paul McShane for position and nodded the ball home.

Sunderland had started to take control of the game in the first half but right near the interval Owen made sure the game was all but over.

Owen hit the ball over Danny Higginbotham and the ball hit his arm in the penalty area. A penalty was awarded and Owen kept calm to slot the ball past Craig Gordon.

Sunderland dominated the second half but couldn’t create any clear cut chances to score a goal.

Newcastle are now guaranteed Premiership football next season while Sunderland are still firmly in a relegation battle.
