Manchester United v Barcelona Preview
The Author
Hey, my name is Liam, and I first published 'Manchester United v Barcelona Preview' on 29th April, 2008, within the Champions League section.
With the second leg of the Champions League Semi Final between Barcelona and Manchester United delicately poised at 0-0, the game tonight is going to be very tense.
The teams will both want to attack each other, but risk knowing that they are both great teams when it comes to counter attacks, so they will have to be aware defensively. The winners of this game go through to play in the Final at Moscow against the winners of the Liverpool - Chelsea tie, which is 1-1 at the moment, secondleg being played at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
If you fancy a flutter on this game then the odds are pretty tight, as you’d imagine.
Man Utd to win - 20/21
Draw - 9/4
Barcelona to win - 3/1
First goalscorer to be Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United) - 4/1
First goalscorer to be Samuel Eto’o (Barcelona) - 7/1
Or First goalscorer to be Patrice Evra (Manchester United) - 40/1 (Well worth putting a few quid on)
Last weeks match saw Cristiano Ronaldo miss an early penalty and then saw Manchester United defend for the rest of the game soaking up Barcelona attacks. Barcelona go into the game with the advantage, knowing that an away goal tonight would mean United having to score two to win the game.
Manchester United
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is sweating on the fitness of Nemanja Vidic and striker Wayne Rooney ahead of this game. Vidic (centre back) picked up a kick in the face during the defeat to Chelsea at the weekend while striker Wayne Rooney is injured with a hip problem that forced him off the field during the match with Chelsea on Saturday.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Patrice Evra should re gain their starting places after being on the bench for the weekends match. Nani and Evra are both one yellow card away from picking up a ban, so they are walking a thin line tonight.
Barcelona
Barcelona also have three players one yellow card away from a ban, Lionel Messi, Gabriel Millito and Yaya Toure. Rafael Marques is banned after he picked up a yellow card during the first leg of this tie last week.
Barcelona have been boosted by the news that central defender Carles Puyol is back in the line up. Frank Rijkaard has a headache of who to play up front. Thierry Henry has played at Old Trafford before and has a good scoring record there. Samuel Eto’o is set to start along side Henry with Messi also playing in the attack.
Whatever the score is tonight, both teams will be playing a cautious but hopefully attack minded game. Who knows we might see plenty of goals!
