Manchester United 1-0 Barcelona
The Author
Hey, my name is Liam, and I first published 'Manchester United 1-0 Barcelona' on 29th April, 2008, within the Champions League section.
A goal was enough to ensure that Man Utd progressed to the finals of the Champions League to play in an all English final in Moscow against either Chelsea or Liverpool as they beat Barcelona 1-0 on Tuesday night.
THe Old Trafford crowd were buzzing before the match and made sure there was an amazing atmosphere inside the ground from start to finish. They were rewarded for their efforts but were given some nervous minutes during the 90 minutes as Man Utd held out to knock out the favorites Barcelona.
A fast start slowed down and Man Utd, after starting the slower of the two teams took control. They were rewarded for their controlled passing and patience when midfielder Paul Scholes hit a 30 yard strike that flew into the top corner and gave United the lead.
Barcelona had some chances to equalise, a great chance when Henry headed straight into the arms of Edwin Van Der Sar who clutched onto the ball gratefully.
Patrice Evra was carried off the field on a stretcher late on after clashing heads with Cristiano Ronaldo in his own box. For the last 5 minutes Barcelona piled on the pressure and Man Utd were pushed deeper and deeper into their own half. Every time they cleared the ball the Old Trafford crowd let out a roar, and the biggest cheer of the night came when the referee blew for full time and it was confirmed that Man Utd were going to Moscow in the Champions League Final.
They will face the winner of the all English clash between Chelsea and Liverpool, who play their second leg on Wednesday night with the score at 1-1.
