Hey, my name is Liam, and I first published 'Liverpool 1-1 Chelsea' on 23rd April, 2008, within the Champions League section.

Chelsea were given a lifeline in their European adventure when Liverpool defender John Arne Riise headed the ball into his own net in the last minute of the Champions League Semi Final, which meant the game ended 1-1 and Chelsea grabbed a vital away goal.

Chelsea were dominated by Liverpool throughout as they were urged on by the home fans. They seemed to be camped in the Chelsea half for the first 30 minutes and never looked like letting Chelsea get an attack together.

Chelsea keeper Petr Cech had to be alert throughout and he produced some magnificent saves which kept the score down. Chelsea never seemed intent on passing the ball around, instead preferred to lump it long to Drogba, who was ineffective all night.

Dirk Kuyt put Liverpool ahead when he tapped home a ball through Cech’s legs just before half time. They went into the break with a deserving 1-0 lead.

Chelsea came into the game more in the second half and were piling on the pressure in the dying stages. A cross in the 94th minute from Malouda gave Riise the option to clear it with his head or with his feet. He chose to head it and tried to head the ball over his own bar, but didn’t get enough height on the ball and it ended up beating up Pepe Reina in goal. The last minute goal gives Chelsea the away goal advantage and leaves Liverpool wandering how they didn’t score more goals in the first half.
