Chelsea v Liverpool Preview
The Author
Hey, my name is Liam, and I first published 'Chelsea v Liverpool Preview' on 30th April, 2008, within the Champions League section.
The second Champions League Semi Final second leg is played on Wednesday night in the all English affair. The winner of tonights match between Chelsea and Liverpool will go onto play in the final in Moscow against Manchester United.
The incentive to win tonights match for both sides is massive, the winner will pit their wits against England’s richest club and could also be named the best club in Europe. Not to mention the prize money and coverage they’ll get from reaching the finals. The previous leg ended in a 1-1 draw at Anfield. Chelsea snatched a late away goal that night thanks to a John Arne Riise own goal late in injury time at the end of the game.
Chelsea
Chelsea will welcome back midfielder Frank Lampard to their midfield after he missed the weekends clash with Manchester United after his mother died during last week. This will boost Chelsea’s hopes of reaching the final and will give Liverpool something to think about.
Other than goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini Chelsea have no fresh injury worries and the team to start should be the same as the one last week at Anfield.
Liverpool
Liverpool are in a similar position to Chelsea on the injury front, no new worries to bother manager Rafa Benitez. He was given a chance to rest nearly all his squad at the weekend when they played Birmingham with only Srktel and Reina playing in that match.
Benitez must decide which players he will play in his defence though. John Arne Riise could start, while Sami Hyypia could go back into the heart of the defence with Jamie Carragher pushing to right back.
Benitez has a selection problem up front as well. He must choose between playing the big striker Peter Crouch or playing the pace of Ryan Babel.
Just like last night’s match between Man Utd and Barcelona this one is sure to be exciting and nervy for both players, fans and neutrals. Kick off is at 7.45 GMT so you can tune in here to our live football scores or watch live football service.
