Bayern, who have been favourites with the bookmakers throughout the competition, could have won the game should Frank Ribery not have missed a penalty.
Bayern Munich were the better of the two teams in the opening stages of the game. In the 17th minute Bayern were awarded a penalty after Fernando Ricksen brought down Ze Roberto. French international Frank Ribery stepped up to take the spot kick but the Zenit keeper saved it. However, Ribery followed up the save by putting away the rebound.
Bayern went into half time with a one goal advantage and fully deserved there lead. However all Bayern’s good work in the first half was undone at the start of the second half when Lucio fired a shot past his keeper Oliver Kahn and saw the ball go into his own goal.
