Hey, my name is Liam, and I first published 'Barcelona 0-0 Manchester United' on 23rd April, 2008, within the Champions League section.

The match between Manchester United and Barcelona was a closely fought contest with both sides creating several chances to score but the match ended in a 0-0 draw.

Manchester United could have taken the lead in the second minute of the game. Barcelona defender Gabriel Milito handled the ball in the penalty area and the referee awarded a penalty.

Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up to take the spot kick but he looked to casual and put the penalty wide of the goal. Barcelona fans were delighted but Man Utd fans must be kicking themselves as that miss was very costly.

For the rest of the game Manchester United never really got into the game and had to defend most of the night. Barcelona went on attacks after attacks but the Man Utd defence was solid and soaked up the pressure.

Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o squandered several good goal-scoring opportunities while Messi had some decent chances and was the best player on the pitch.

Somehow the game ended goalless, a score line which would have suited Man Utd boss Sir Alex Ferguson. However would we have seen a different game should Cristiano Ronaldo have scored his penalty?

Both sides will go into the second leg of the semi final confident, with Barcelona knowing an away goal would be priceless, while Man Utd will know they have home advantage and will no doubt have their fans backing them all the way to the end of the tie.
